The Gallery
Abstract Art Gallery, Riga is an independent contemporary art gallery founded in 2010 in Riga, Latvia, by artist and PhD engineer Maria Ruisi.
Built around a dialogue between art, material, perception and human experience, the gallery represents a carefully selected international group of contemporary artists whose practices span painting, abstraction, mixed media, sculptural relief and material experimentation.
The gallery is particularly interested in artists who have developed an identifiable visual language and whose work carries a genuine relationship to matter, memory, culture, transformation, nature or human experience.
Rather than following a single aesthetic movement, Abstract Art Gallery brings together distinct artistic voices united by authenticity, technical commitment and the capacity to create works with a lasting physical and emotional presence.
From emerging practices to established artistic careers, the gallery approaches representation as a long-term collaboration. Each artist retains an individual identity, while the gallery provides international presentation, collector relations and carefully developed positioning across its network and selected art-market platforms.
Based in Riga, Latvia, and working internationally, Abstract Art Gallery connects artists and collectors across Europe and beyond.
Our purpose is simple: to discover distinctive artistic voices, present them with integrity, and allow meaningful works to find the collections in which they can continue their story.

Maria Ruisi Founder Artist

Born in May 1983, Maria Ruisi is a contemporary artist and PhD engineer recognized for her exceptional mastery of textures, relief compositions and light interaction.
Since early childhood, she has developed an instinctive sensitivity to material, later enriched through a rigorous scientific approach, resulting in a rare artistic practice that is both highly technical and deeply intuitive.
Through advanced techniques combining acrylic painting, relief structures and sculptural compositions, she creates artworks where material is shaped with precision, tension and balance. Her works are not static; they are conceived as evolving structures, capable of transforming subtly over time.
Light moves across the surface, revealing hidden nuances. Reliefs intensify, textures gain density, and the artwork gradually acquires deeper visual complexity. Each piece becomes a living entity, offering a constantly renewed visual experience.

Natasha Tarasenko Contemporary Artist

Born on April 7, 1985 in Riga, Natasha Tarasenko is a contemporary artist working between Riga and Dubai.
Her work is rooted in a refined minimalist approach, characterized by balance, purity and controlled textures.
Through carefully composed structures, she develops a precise visual language where each element is intentional and essential.
Her artworks create silent yet powerful atmospheres, where light and material interact subtly, revealing evolving variations over time.
Her practice integrates advanced techniques and a deep understanding of materials, resulting in works that are structured, harmonious and timeless.

Inès Rouissi Artiste chercheuse méditerranéenne

Born on January 25, 1977, Inès Rouissi develops a distinctive artistic approach deeply rooted in the Mediterranean world, at the intersection of research, material, and spatial perception.
From an early age, she has explored the interactions between interior and exterior environments, developing both an instinctive and analytical understanding of volumes, textures, and atmospheres.
Her work is driven by continuous research, where each creation becomes a living study of the relationships between light, structure, and perception.
Through a practice that is both intuitive and methodical, she creates compositions where balance, fluidity, and visual coherence are central.
Her artworks are characterized by their ability to generate immersive and natural atmospheres, inspired by Mediterranean landscapes and their sensory richness. Each piece becomes an evolving experience, designed to interact with its environment and transform subtly over time.

Nejla Rouissi

Born December 6, 1988. Doctor-engineer, researcher, and multidisciplinary artist working at the intersection of science, technology, and artistic creation. A university lecturer in computer science, Nejla Rouissi develops a distinctive visual language rooted in abstraction, systemic complexity, and the invisible structures shaping human experience.

Her works translate the tension between logic and emotion into precise, layered compositions, where relief, texture, and depth operate as living systems. Moving effortlessly across all formats and techniques — from intimate canvases to monumental sculptural reliefs — she adapts each medium to her inner vision with rare technical authority.

Her parallel practice of trapeze and aerial hoop extends her research into physical space, where movement, suspension, and balance become a living extension of her artistic language.
Her work embodies a contemporary and international vision, where scientific thought, embodied movement, and abstraction converge into a powerful and distinctive signature.

Redisa Lena
Contemporary Baltic Artist

Born in Riga, Latvia, 1963
Redisa Lena is a Latvian contemporary artist born in Riga, whose work captures the silence, light and poetic atmosphere of the Baltic coast.
Her path is exceptional. Trained as an engineer with two higher technical degrees, she worked as a designer at the legendary VEF factory in Riga, then specialised in industrial design and energy engineering. This rigorous scientific foundation gives her paintings a rare structural precision and emotional depth — a quality that distinguishes her in contemporary art.
Since 2005, painting has become the central force of her life. In 2008 she studied drawing under N. Uvarov. In 2011 she joined the studio of Professor Vladimir Kozin of the Latvian Academy of Arts — one of the most respected artistic mentors in Latvia.
The most experienced artist of the Abstract Art Gallery roster, Redisa Lena brings decades of combined expertise and artistic sensitivity to each canvas.
Selected Exhibitions
House of the Blackheads, Riga — World Trade Centre, Riga — Riga Northern Executive Directorate — Belarus Academy, Riga — Moscow House, Riga — Happy Art Museum, Riga — Personal exhibitions, Kolka, Latvia
Works held in private collections in Latvia and internationally.
Working exclusively in oil on canvas, Redisa Lena creates atmospheric paintings rooted in the grey-blue light of the Baltic sea, golden sand, white clouds and the ancient pines of Kolka — where wind and waves meet in absolute silence.
“For Redisa Lena, painting is the preservation of silence. Each work is a moment suspended in time — light, nature and memory united on canvas.”

SAMIA KERKENI
Contemporary Artist – Exploring Matter, Colour and Movement

Born in 1980, Samia Kerkeni develops an artistic approach in which matter becomes an emotional language in its own right. Her universe is defined by a deep investigation into textures, fluid movements and the interactions between light and colour.
A doctor and researcher in her field, she brings to her artistic practice a spirit of permanent exploration. This singular sensitivity allows her to create abstract works where every relief, every nuance and every contrast contributes to a fully immersive visual experience.
Inspired by natural forces — oceans, invisible currents and the metamorphoses of matter — Samia Kerkeni composes works in which energy flows freely across the surface. Deep blues, luminous turquoises, brilliant whites and mineral accents create compositions that are at once powerful, elegant and timeless.
Each creation is born from a slow and masterful process — layer by layer, gesture by gesture — where technique meets emotion and texture becomes a true artistic signature. Every work is an invitation to contemplation, offering each viewer the freedom to discover their own story within it.
Her works are part of the international selection of Abstract Art Gallery, a gallery specialising in contemporary art and high-end textural creations.
“Matter is never still. It holds the memory of the gesture, the light and the emotion that brought it into being.” — Samia Kerkeni

Gerardo Pochintesta

Italian, b. 1972
Gerardo Pochintesta is a contemporary artist whose work sits at the crossroads of Constructivism, symbolic form, and an intuitive exploration of color and texture. His practice has been shaped by decades of travel and study across Spain, Peru, Bolivia, the Netherlands, India, Gambia, France, Uruguay, Brazil and Argentina — each place leaving its trace on how he thinks about structure, material and meaning.
In 2003, Pochintesta founded the Pochintesta Workshop in Cuzco, Peru, a base from which his research into constructivist principles deepened. His exhibition history spans two decades and several countries, including Galería Dupink in Madrid, Galería Kuichy-rumi in Cuzco, and a series of exhibitions across Asturias and Cantabria in Spain. Among his most significant works is a permanent constructivist mural at the Escuela de Música de Roces in Gijón, Spain (2010), a piece that continues to anchor his reputation as a muralist and public artist.
Pochintesta’s recent work moves toward layered, mineral-toned abstraction — surfaces built patiently, in stages, that evoke stone, water and the passage of time. Rather than offering a single, immediate reading, his paintings reward slow, sustained looking. Formal rigor and intuition sit side by side in his process: each work is the result of research as much as feeling.
Represented in Europe by Abstract Art Gallery, Riga, Latvia, Pochintesta continues to develop a body of work that bridges his constructivist foundations with a deeply personal, contemporary visual language.

Tatjana Jermolajeva (Tana Jerm)

Tatjana Jermolajeva (Tana Jerm), born in 1966, is a Latvian contemporary artist and researcher whose artistic practice is rooted in experimentation, technical mastery, and an enduring investigation into the possibilities of materials and texture.
Her work reflects an unusually broad understanding of artistic techniques. Rather than defining herself through one medium, she approaches art as a continuously evolving field of research, exploring how colour, matter, transparency, density, layering, gesture, and relief can transform a surface and alter the viewer’s perception of it.
For Tana Jerm, texture is not simply a decorative element — it is part of the language of the artwork itself. Her compositions emerge through a dialogue between knowledge and intuition. Technical control provides the foundation, while experimentation allows unexpected interactions between materials to become part of the creative process. This balance gives her works both physical presence and visual depth. Her position as an artist and researcher in the artistic field is fundamental to understanding her practice. Creation becomes investigation: materials are studied, techniques are tested, surfaces evolve, and each artwork contributes to a broader exploration of contemporary artistic expression. This constant research has enabled Jermolajeva to develop a versatile practice capable of moving naturally between different techniques while preserving a coherent artistic identity.
At the heart of her work lies a fascination with transformation — the moment when raw material, colour and gesture cease to exist independently and become a new visual experience. Based in Latvia, Tatjana Jermolajeva (Tana Jerm) embodies a contemporary approach in which artistic experience meets experimentation and research. Her work invites the viewer not only to look at the image, but to experience its surface, depth, movement, and material presence.

OXANA MORASCH
Contemporary Artist · Berlin, Germany
Memory, Transformation & Material Abstraction

Oxana Morasch is a Berlin-based contemporary artist whose practice explores identity, memory, emotional transformation and the transitional states through which experience reshapes our understanding of ourselves and others.
With a multidisciplinary background in audiovisual media, photography, moving image and visual storytelling, Morasch brings a distinctive sense of rhythm, composition and narrative movement to contemporary painting.
Working primarily with acrylic and mixed media, she develops her surfaces through successive acts of layering, concealment and revelation. Lines shift direction, forms emerge and disappear, and earlier traces remain partially visible beneath later interventions. These material processes echo the way memory itself operates: experiences may change meaning, identities evolve, yet traces of what came before remain.
Her current series, What Lives Within Us, All at Once, examines states of becoming — moments when something familiar has begun to change before a new understanding or identity has fully taken shape.
Personal experiences surrounding motherhood and intergenerational relationships provide one point of departure, opening onto broader questions of love, freedom, closeness, loss, connection and transformation.
Earth tones and ochres evoke origin and accumulated memory; blue introduces movement and change; recurring red traces suggest love and the persistence of connection.
Morasch deliberately resists imposing a single interpretation on her paintings. Her personal experience gives the work its emotional truth, while abstraction leaves space for another person’s memories and experiences to enter.
Her 2026 work Emerging, selected by Morasch as particularly representative of the present direction of her practice, brings together many of these concerns through acrylic, texture paste, sand and crackle techniques.
Oxana Morasch lives and works in Berlin, Germany. Represented internationally by Abstract Art Gallery, Riga.

Gallery Vision

Abstract Art Gallery believes that meaningful contemporary art begins with an individual voice.

Our programme brings together artists from different cultures, generations and professional backgrounds, selected not for conformity to a single style, but for the coherence, authenticity and depth of their artistic practice.

We are interested in works capable of sustaining attention beyond the immediate image — works in which material, gesture, memory, culture, perception or personal experience create a deeper relationship with the viewer.

The gallery is committed to developing artists through thoughtful international positioning while preserving the individuality that makes each practice distinctive.

Our relationship with collectors follows the same philosophy: transparency, provenance, authenticity, careful presentation and long-term support.

AUTHENTICITY, MATERIALS & COLLECTOR CARE

Every artwork presented by Abstract Art Gallery is accompanied by clear documentation regarding its authorship, medium, dimensions and provenance.

Original works are signed by the artist where applicable and delivered with a Certificate of Authenticity.

The gallery places particular attention on professional materials, appropriate protection, careful handling and secure international transport.

For textured and relief works, changing natural and artificial light may reveal different nuances, shadows and aspects of the surface throughout the day — an important part of experiencing the artwork in person.

Collectors also benefit from the gallery’s long-term commitment to after-sales assistance and artwork care.

INTERNATIONAL DELIVERY & COLLECTOR SERVICE

Abstract Art Gallery works with collectors internationally.

Each artwork is prepared according to its individual dimensions, materials and surface characteristics. Packaging methods are adapted to the specific work, with particular attention given to sculptural, textured and mixed-media surfaces.

Shipments are professionally protected, tracked and insured where applicable, with the gallery coordinating the process from departure to delivery.

Collectors receive dedicated assistance before, during and after acquisition.

Our relationship with a collector does not end when an artwork is delivered.
